Announcement and Call for FY2008-09 Proposals

The Nongame Wildlife Grants Program (NWGP) is currently accepting applications for the FY2008-09 General Grants funding cycle. The submission deadline is November 26, 2007 for projects that will begin July 1, 2008.

Introduction

 

The Nongame Wildlife Grants Program (NWGP) announces the annual call for General Grant Proposals (competitive) for research, management, and education projects that will benefit the conservation of Florida's nongame wildlife species. Applicants should carefully review the following information and refer to the Program Guidelines for complete submission details.

 

Applicants interested in developing proposals that will also meet the requirements of the Florida State Wildlife Grants Program (FSWGP), a part of Florida’s Wildlife Legacy Initiative, should visit the FSWGP Web site. Any NWGP proposals that include components that have also been submitted to the FSWGP for funding consideration must identify any support requested from both programs in the budget narrative section of the NWGP application.

 

Funds awarded to successful applicants will be obligated through an executed agreement. Supported projects may begin as early as July 1, 2008.

 

Applicant Eligibility

 

The program is open to applicants seeking financial support for projects that meet the Project Eligibility requirements described below. Per Florida Administrative Code 68-1.003 F.A.C, all applicants and their affiliated institutions must be prequalified to receive a grant from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). For the Purposes of this announcement, subsequent refernces to the FWC will be designatedas the "Commission." 

 

Applicants automatically covered under this rule include:

  1. State agencies;

  2. Persons or non-profit organizations named in the Florida Statutes as eligible to receive Commission grant funds (subsequent references will address FWC as “Commission”);

  3. Persons or non-profit organizations named in appropriation bills of the Florida Legislature to whom funds are directed;

  4. Local, county, state, and federal research entities;

  5. Public universities and independent non-profit colleges or universities located within Florida and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools;

  6. Persons named in revenue grants received by the Commission who will act in a sub-recipient or vendor role;

  7. Nonprofit organizations with scientific, environmental, or natural resource missions.

Applicants other that those listed must complete and submit a prequalification request online which can be located at the NWGP Web site. Requests must be received at least five (5) working days prior to the submission deadline of November 21, 2007. 

 

Project Eligibility

 

Any research, management, or education project relating to Florida’s nongame wildlife is eligible for funding consideration. Program Guidelines and all required forms and supplemental information are available upon request to the NWGP at the mailing address listed below or may be downloaded from the NWGP Web site. 

 

Application Procedures and Selection Criteria

 

A complete description of the Application Procedures is available on the NWGP Web site for persons interested in submitting an application. Applicants may also wish to review the NWGP Evaluation and Selection Process that will determine the grant awards for FY2008-09.

The following schedule highlights important dates for the Nongame Wildlife Grants Program FY2008-09 funding cycle:

 

October 12, 2007- General Grant Cycle Announcement.

 

November 26, 2007 – Deadline for application submission (due by 5 p.m EST).

 

March 1, 2008 – Award notifications distributed.

 

July 1, 2008 – Projects begin.
